Cyberwelless - Handling Inappropriate content

Hi Everyone,

Mdm Phua Ei Ling shared her personal experience on Cyber Addiction.

'For the past few weeks, I have been playing a game called Waka-Waka, an improvised version of Pac-man. I have always enjoyed playing Pac-man since I was young. Soon, I was addicted to the game unknowingly. Negative behaviours such as spending too much time on the game and always wanting to play the game soon surfaced. My ultimate goal was to be the first on the score board. However after about a week, I realised that something was amiss. I wasn't spending enough time with my family members. I began to reflect on the purpose of playing the game and how it has affected my daily routine. I came to understand the importance of having a balanced lifestyle and spending time with my family members. Now, I'll only play the game if I've completed my work and limit myself to at most 30 minutes of gaming every day.'

Well, that's a very interesting story, don't you agree?

What about you? Are you addicted to the computer?

To help you write your reflection, I have listed some questions below:

1. How many hours a day do you spend on the computer?
2. Are you addicted to the computer? If 'yes', how do you become addicted to it? If 'no', how have you managed to remain unaddicted?
3. How has this addiction affect you daily life/routine? (If you're not addicted to the computer, you need not answer this question)
4. Is your school work affected by the time you spend on the computer? Elaborate.
5. What can you do to prevent Cyber Addiction?
6. What advice would you give to your friend who is addicted to computer games?

I hope to read your reflection soon.

Effects of Preventive Measures on Pupils

Hi Everyone,
Since the start of the new semester, we had to take our temperature twice a day. Some of our classmates could not return to school because they were on leave of absence(LOA). Our CCA and other activities have been cancelled or postponed.

Below is a list of questions that can help you with your reflection:
1. What do you think of the school's preventive measures for H1N1 such as temperature-taking, no assembly in the hall, cancellation of CCA and other activities?
2. Which activities have affected you?
3. How has the cancellation of these activities affect you in your learning?
4. What do you do with the extra time you have now?
5. Are your activities outside school also affected?

Hope to read your reflection soon.

Project Work Week (25th-28th May 2009)

Dear everyone,

This year I think everyone played their part in ensuring a smooth week. Though there were some disagreement and squabbles, I hope everyone had a great time bonding with their group friends. And that you learnt how to settle quarrels and to make peace.

I saw some of you displaying confidence when speaking in front of the whole class. Those who were feeling shy, I hope you can overcome that and be brave enough to raise your voices the next time you present.

I was very happy to see some groups put in so much effort like by going to your friend's house to work together. I'm glad that you took this project seriously and tried your best to present. I also had fun watching you work together and watching you present your hard work.

Thank you for a wonderful time (^-^) With that note, I wish everyone HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Do remember to complete your holiday homework and do some revision of Term 1 & 2 work, but most of all, don't forget to have loads of fun!! (^-^)

Chinese New Year visit to Ang Mo Kio - Thye Hua Kwan Hospital

Mrs Y speaks...

Some of your friends and I went to AMK-Thye Hua Kwan Hospital (the one next to our school) last Saturday, together with Mr. Martin Tan and P4.3. We visited the old folks and brought them Chinese New Year greetings and goodies.

I was very touched by how your friends treated the old folks. Initially your friends were abit nervous as it was a first time for most of them. However when they wished a few old people, they picked up their courage and approached the old people on their own, wishing them well and bringing smiles, even tears of joy, to their faces.

It was a good experience which I believe everyone enjoyed. I hope those who went remember to reflect and blog about their feelings and experiences.
